Horsemanship for Health UK

"We offer education and well-being courses for people experiencing mental health challenges. "

Who We Help, Why We Help & the Difference It Makes

We work with people of all ages to help them reconnect to their joy in learning and living. Working on a beautiful, peaceful farm with our horses and ponies in nature, we support people who may have been through a mental health crisis to explore their own wisdom, wonder and well-being. Our horses are master teachers of health and resilience. Our facilitators are trained in teaching, equine-assisted learning and education coaching.

Over a series of six to 12 themed sessions, we gently guide people back towards their innate health and wisdom. We believe that everyone, regardless of their circumstances or time in life, can find their way home to health and well-being and we share with people an understanding of how the mind works.

Our students have reported increased confidence and feelings of trust and a sense of achievement.

What People Say:

I feel I've come home to myself for the first time.' JL

The session was perfectly paced. I felt completely safe at all times.DC

The horses achieve a degree of trust, connection and openness in one session what might take a support worker, ten sessions.  Jeanette, health and well-being co-ordinator.

It was lovely to witness the interaction with M, the subtleties of communication between them, and to see the positive effect on her frame of mind afterwards. Becci, support worker

I really wish you every bit of success with Horsemanship for Health. You are all such lovely people and with Dragonfly and Sheranni you really do change peoples lives…Feeling SO much stronger in myself now and am in a good place.  Love and happiness to you all. JD

We covered a lot of ground and I loved leading Dragonfly through the gate –everything seemed to gel and connect! Felt good! I feel much more confident after the session so a big thank you to you and the amazing horses. LM

What a great session we had on Friday!  I admit I was feeling apprehensive when you first told us we'd be walking the boys through lanes!  Our theme was trust, I knew I trusted your expertise & safe hands as my caring guide, & I trusted my connection with Sheranni, so I felt able to give it a go. And I am SO glad I did! WS

Rebecca and Jen have not stopped talking about it!  Ben Pidgeon, Outdoor Education Leader, Turning Tides.

Thank you for everything you have done for me. Coming to the horses is helping me to stay out of hospital. FW

What Would You Like Now?

Choose one of the options below.

We start by talking to people on the phone to find out a little more about their life experience and how we might create a well-being course for them.

We then invite them to come for a taster to meet the horses and our team on the farm.

We work with people in small groups and everyone has one-to-one time with a horse or pony.

Our courses are suitable for people who are interested in learning about themselves in a new way. They are are educational and designed around supporting people to help themselves.

We are not offering therapy or counselling. Our courses are inspired and influenced by teachers and practitioners from the fields of philosophy, education and health.

As part of a session, we include mindfulness meditation with the horses and time to reflect on habits of mind. We help people to understand how the mind works naturally to support wisdom, health and resilience.
