Vintage Volunteers

"Improve the health and wellbeing of people aged 60+ through increased access to volunteering opps"
Vintage Volunteers is an exciting new project dedicated to people aged 60+ in Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle Under Lyme.

Funded by the Big Lottery, the Vintage Volunteers Project seeks to tap into the wealth of knowledge and experience of the local 60+ community by supporting them into tailored and accessible volunteering roles. ‘Volunteering is a wonderful way to make a difference in your local community,’ says Project Manager, Steve Terry. ‘But it also helps volunteers too. Older people who volunteer often see an improvement in their personal health and wellbeing, an increase in their social connections and a renewed sense of purpose and self-worth.’

Launched in May, 2017, the project not only aims to improve the health and wellbeing of participants, but also brings much needed skills and experience to the voluntary sector, enhancing the sense of community cohesion locally and promoting a positive view of ageing. ‘The transition from work to retirement can be a challenging time, and can lead to people feeling isolated and without a clear purpose,’ says Steve. ‘We think that a great way to tackle this is by helping people make a difference in their community.’
